Continuous Time
Nirantar is a calm, hand-tuned clock for Android — alarms, a timer, a stopwatch, and a live solar-system view of exactly where you are on Earth right now. Built for people who want the time of day to feel like a quiet ritual instead of a notification.
Nirantar, Trishul, Bindu, Shudh, Mudra, Ekant, Rekha, Jyoti, Vidyut — pick one in Settings, swipe between them on the Clock screen. Smooth-sweep second hand throughout.
Four bundled ambient tracks — Bansuri, Sitar, Nadi, Shankh — designed for gentle waking. System ringtones still available.
Per-alarm vibration, gradual wake, snooze duration, and an opt-in "delete after alarm goes off" toggle so one-shot alarms don't pile up.
Drag-to-set circular timer up to 60 minutes, with a five-second snap. Stopwatch with lap times and best-lap highlight.
A live, top-down solar-system view of Earth, the Sun, the Moon and you — annotated and updated every 30 seconds. Day/night terminator computed from your location.
Full-screen alarm UI that wakes the screen and shows over the lock screen, with snooze and dismiss controls within reach.
| Permission | Purpose |
|---|---|
ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION | Approximate location → drives the day/night calc and the "you" dot on the Sky screen, plus the city + weather strip on the Clock screen. Never leaves your device except to fetch open weather data. |
SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM / USE_EXACT_ALARM | Required so alarms fire at the exact minute you set, even when the phone is in Doze mode. |
USE_FULL_SCREEN_INTENT | Lets the alarm UI take over the lock screen when an alarm goes off. |
POST_NOTIFICATIONS | For the alarm-ringing notification and snooze controls. |
FOREGROUND_SERVICE + FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PLAYBACK | Required to keep the alarm sound playing reliably until you snooze or dismiss. |
VIBRATE | Per-alarm vibration pattern. |
WAKE_LOCK | Briefly held while an alarm fires so the screen turns on. |
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED | Re-arms enabled alarms after a phone reboot. |
INTERNET | Fetches current weather and weather-code from Open-Meteo using only your coarse coordinates. |
Nirantar collects your approximate location on-device, with your permission, in order to:
Your location is stored only in the app's private SharedPreferences on your device. It is sent only to Open-Meteo, and only as latitude / longitude pairs, in the URL of an HTTPS request, in order to retrieve the weather reading. Open-Meteo does not require an API key and does not link the request to a personal account. The app does not include any analytics SDK, tracker, ad network, crash reporter, or third-party identifier. No data is shared with the developer or with any other third party.
You can revoke location permission at any time in Android's app settings; the app will keep working with the day/night view falling back to your device's local clock.
Children's privacy: Nirantar does not knowingly collect any personal data from children. The app does not show ads or in-app purchases.
Account data: Nirantar has no accounts, no sign-in, no cloud sync. Everything stays on your device.
