Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 2026

Vaarta ("we", "the app") is a news aggregator that displays publicly available RSS feeds. We are committed to protecting your privacy.

Information we collect

Vaarta does not collect or store any personal information on our servers. We do not operate any servers. All preferences (selected categories, theme, bookmarks, notification settings, reactions) are stored locally on your device using Android's DataStore and Room database.

Advertising

The current release of Vaarta does not contain advertisements. A future release may introduce advertisements served by Google AdMob. If and when this happens, this policy will be updated to disclose what data the ad SDK collects (typically: device advertising identifier, approximate location, app interaction data) and how you can opt out.

Notifications

If you grant notification permission, Vaarta uses Android's WorkManager to deliver news alerts locally. Notifications are scheduled and rendered on your device — no personal data is transmitted to any server for this purpose.

Third-party content

All news content is sourced from public RSS feeds published by third-party news organisations including but not limited to The Hindu, NDTV, Indian Express, Hindustan Times, Mint, Scroll, The Wire, and Press Information Bureau. We are not responsible for the content, privacy practices, or terms of those organisations. When you tap "Read full story", the article opens in an in-app browser pointed at the publisher's website; the publisher's own privacy policy applies to that interaction.

Data storage and deletion

All preferences, bookmarks, and reading reactions are stored locally on your device. We never transmit any of this data to our servers, because we do not operate any servers. To delete all your data, uninstall Vaarta from your device. No further action is required.

Crash reporting

The current release does not transmit any crash or diagnostic data. A future release may use a third-party crash reporting service to collect anonymous crash reports for the purpose of fixing bugs. If and when this is enabled, we will update this policy to disclose it and the data categories involved (typically: stack trace, OS version, device model, app version — never personal content).

Children's privacy

Vaarta is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy occasionally. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
